Stefanos Kozanis – Short Bio

Stefanos Kozanis is a composer and pianist active in jazz, classical, and contemporary music. He began studying music at an early age, taking lessons in classical guitar, organ, and music theory before turning to the piano. During his studies at the National Technical University of Athens, he continued his classical training in the piano class of Athanasios Trikoupis, earning a soloist diploma with highest distinction and First Prize. At the same time, he completed advanced theoretical studies, obtaining degrees in Harmony and Counterpoint.

His interest in improvisational music led him to the jazz department of the Athenaeum Conservatory, where he studied with George Micros (piano) and Sylvios Syrros (improvisation), receiving a diploma in jazz piano and improvisation. As a performer he has appeared in concerts throughout Greece as a soloist and accompanist with ensembles, choirs, and orchestras, and in recent years has been an active member of the Athenian jazz scene.

In discography he appears with the ensemble Jazz Tales on Herkyna – Nassia Gofa & The Jazz Tales (2023), as well as in collaboration with Finnish trumpeter Jykä Ahola on Dedications (2023). In 2023 he created the project Asterismyth, featuring compositions inspired by constellations and Greek mythology. The album Asterismyth – Music About The Constellations and Mythical Figures (2024) was presented in a sold-out concert at the Athens Conservatory Hall (Megaron), while in June 2025 the project was also presented at the National Observatory of Athens as part of a special concert and at the Half Note Jazz Club. His most recent work is the music for the stage production Aeschylus’ Persians, directed by Phaedon Kastris, currently performed at the Fournos Theater and released on all digital platforms (2026).

His musical language blends jazz harmony, lyrical writing influenced by classical music, and elements of Greek musical tradition, forming a distinctive polystylistic voice. Beyond jazz, he composes for theatre, film, and multimedia, with works presented in short films, stage productions, and publications.

Alongside his artistic career, Stefanos Kozanis holds a Doctor of Engineering degree from the National Technical University of Athens and maintains parallel research and professional activity.
